Course description

As part of this course, we aim to provide our participants with a general understanding of the current Aviation insurance market, insight into a possible reinsurance structure to best cover a small Aviation portfolio, an understanding of Aviation claims' procedures, and the basics of Space insurance. Our course is aimed at individuals with limited experience within the Aviation (re-)insurance world. The course is held in person over a 5 day period to allow participants to make some professional connections along the way.

Requirements

Participants must be fluent in English and have a basic understanding of insurance principles including insurable interest, utmost good faith, indemnity, contract law, and insurance law. No knowledge of reinsurance is required.

Swiss Re Institute reserves the right to defer applications from candidates who do not yet fulfill the prerequisites.

Day 1:

  • General Aviation insurance
    Insurance of small(er) aircraft and their use cases
  • Principles of Aviation and Insurance markets.
    Basics of aircraft and flight

Day 2:

  • Airline Insurance and Reinsurance
    Aviation history, their dance with revenues, and the direct market intricacies
  • Claims Handling Hull
    What to look for when assessing hull claims.

Day 3:

  • Aviation Law and claims handling
    Social Inflation and its impact on aviation liability
  • Site Visit – Pilatus Aircraft Ltd Tour or Tour of the Zurich Airport facilities.

Day 4:

  • Introduction to Reinsurance
    Why reinsurance? What to look out for.
  • Case Study Reinsurance
    Theory to practice – create the optimum cover for a client

Day 5:

  • Space Insurance
    Satellites and insurers' role
  • Apéro
    ​​​​​​​Social and evaluation end of the course
