The COVID-19 containment measures and lockdowns may have reduced emissions momentarily. Transport still accounts for about 24% of greenhouse gas emissions from fuel combustion. Accelerating the global transition to cleaner transportation has never been so important.

The Swiss Re SONAR 2021- New emerging risks insights highlights how innovation in urban mobility is increasingly driven by sustainability demands. And while short distance e-travel and micromobility promise a sustainable response to traffic-loaded urban centres, these new technologies and solutions will also create new risks, including new cyber and liability risks alongside the more obvious risks of collision. In addition, new risks will stem from the infrastructure they require.

City planners will play a crucial role in creating mobility ecosystems where these new e-vehicles can safely interact and coexist with the traditional transport services and infrastructures.

What are these new risks, and what will it take to enable the mobility revolution and meet the sustainability imperative for cities and consumers?
