Swiss Re proudly celebrates its 100th anniversary in Brazil. This milestone is not only a testament to the strength of Swiss Re’s long-term commitment to the local reinsurance market but also ties into the company’s 160-year history as a global leader in reinsurance.

In 1924, Swiss Re signed its first (Life) reinsurance contract in Brazil with SulAmérica, setting the stage for a long-lasting relationship that has shaped the country's insurance landscape.

Throughout the decades, Swiss Re expanded its presence globally while staying dedicated to Brazil. The company established its São Paulo office in 1996, and in 2008, following the re-opening of Brazil's reinsurance market, Swiss Re officially became an admitted reinsurer. In 2012, Swiss Re received authorization from Superintendência de Seguros Privados (SUSEP) to establish Swiss Re Brasil Resseguros, gaining access to 40% of the local reinsurance market. This allowed us to keep bringing our expertise and innovation to support local insurers.

Today, Swiss Re’s São Paulo office is home to over 70 employees, all working together to support clients with top-notch reinsurance services. Our team is dedicated to helping Brazil face the current and evolving risks of the future, from natural catastrophes to risks in life and health. As we mark this 100-year anniversary, we are proud of the partnerships we have built and the contributions we’ve made to the Brazilian economy and insurance market.

Looking ahead, Swiss Re remains committed to strengthening the resilience of Brazil’s re/insurance market. This anniversary is not just a reflection on the past, it’s evidence of dedication to continue driving progress and mitigating risks for the next 100 years and beyond.
