A new business agenda for the future of work
How we are collaborating with WEF to make good work a reality not just for Swiss Re but everywhere
Why are we coming to work? Is it for the money, for the purpose or maybe because of a fair work environment? Given the current global megatrends – the question of what attracts and retains employees needs to occupy the mind of any employer in any industry.
The Good Work Alliance of the World Economic Forum (WEF) has brought different employers together to think about a Future of Work that pays tribute to a changing economy and evolving social trends. As Global Chief HR Officer and Head Corporate Services at Swiss Re, I'm honoured to be part of this alliance and contribute to a new vision that tries to align challenging market and social conditions to the ever-changing working preferences of different cultures, generations, and personalities.
Through the Good Work Alliance we're developing The Good Work Framework that proposes enhancing job quality through five objectives and associated goals:
- Promote fair pay and social justice.
- Provide flexibility and protection.
- Deliver on health and well-being.
- Drive diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Foster employability and learning culture.
Through Swiss Re's and other forward thinking companies' endorsement we will signal the start of a movement towards the wider adoption and implementation of the Framework and a healthy, resilient, and equitable future of work.
Already today, our vision at Swiss Re is to ensure our employees find meaning in their work and have a deep sense of purpose matched with an attractive, flexible, equitable and inclusive work environment. Our OTWYW approach motivates and engages high performance teams by allowing employees to decide how, when, and where to carry out their tasks while considering client and team needs, and in compliance with the applicable laws, and regulations of their particular region. Through Pathways we're committed to supporting the wellbeing of our employees and encourage everyone to be open about their health – both physical and mental. In addition, last year we signed the Leadership Pledge for Mental Health, a business led collaboration for better mental health which advocates for critical changes to workplace mental health support.
The collaborative efforts of the Good Work Alliance will have wide-ranging benefits for economies, societies and businesses and will help Swiss Re fulfil its vision of making the world more resilient.
