SPARK PROGRAMME Programme Overview

The Spark Internship offers university students a unique chance to engage in a two-semester internship. Beginning in September, interns embark on a 9-month journey as part-time employees, dedicating approximately 20 hours per week. Throughout this period, each intern is assigned to a business team within Swiss Re Bratislava based on their preferences, strengths, and academic background.

The internship is managed by a programme core team ready to assist with any questions, and each intern is typically assigned a buddy for the entire 9-month period to provide continuous support throughout their journey.


Programme Structure

The Spark Internship is structured into two specialized chapters:

Spark AM and Finance

Originally developed within the Asset Management department, this chapter expanded in 2023 to include Finance, allowing interns to experience a comprehensive business environment in collaboration with both functions.

This chapter introduces interns to the core principles of Asset Management and Finance at Swiss Re, providing hands-on experience with real data and insights into our investment management and financial reporting practices.

SparkIT

This chapter focuses on our Tech & Analytics teams within Asset Management, following a similar structure but tailored with unique projects and Business Case topics specific to technology and data analytics.

SparkIT exposes interns to real-world technology challenges. This track is ideal for students interested in data and application engineering, providing hands-on experience with tools like Oracle, PostgreSQL, Python, and cloud technologies, with a focus on collaboration between tech and business.

A Comprehensive Learning Journey through Key Programme Pillars

Beyond hands-on experience, Spark interns attend exclusive sessions led by Swiss Re professionals and leaders across departments. Interns also benefit from career counselling, social events, and informal networking with senior leaders, all designed to enhance their experience and career prospects.

To foster collaboration and industry insight, each intern is required to contribute to a Business Case project, addressing timely and relevant topics within the industry. At the conclusion of the internship, interns present their findings and insights to Swiss Re experts, receiving valuable feedback on their work.
