The Earthquake Damage Organisation (EDO) is ready for action after a year-long preparation period
Earthquakes are considered one of the top risks in Switzerland, with potential devastating consequences should a major quake occur in the vicinity of conurbations. For this reason, a project has been running for the past 12 months to establish a public-private partnership organisation, supported by the Swiss cantons and the insurance industry.
The project, which required intensive cooperation between the Confederation, the cantons, insurers and the development partners Swiss Re and risktec AG, was completed as planned with the expected functionality and within the time and budget framework.
The IT platform of the EDO allows claims experts to quickly record all damage and information after an earthquake and estimate the costs for reconstruction. In so doing, it helps ensure that the Swiss economy and society can recover quickly after such a seismic event.
The Earthquake Damage Organisation selected Swiss Re in 2022, to support it with the creation of an IT platform for claims experts, that functions throughout Switzerland. I am delighted that the platform has been successfully delivered as it makes an important contribution to resilience in Switzerland.
