Amar Rahman supports customers in identifying, evaluating, and improving physical and operational resilience related to natural hazards and climate change. Prior to joining Zurich Insurance in 2011, he held several roles in the civil engineering sector, specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects (petroleum industry, bridges, energy infrastructure, desalination plants and associated transmission network).
Amar Rahman started his career with Zurich as a construction risk engineer before leading the European hub of specialists. He developed and led the natural hazards resilience service after the 2011 Thailand floods and was also the global head of the natural hazards risk engineering technical center. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Baghdad in 1988. Amar Rahman completed his PhD in earthquake engineering and structural dynamics from the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand) and went on to complete two post-doctoral fellowships, one at Canterbury and the second at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany). He earned an Executive MBA from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) in 2011.
