Dr. Daniel Möckli heads the Think Tank at ETH Zurich’s Center for Security Studies. From 2021 to 2024, he was Head of Policy Planning at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), overseeing strategy development and geopolitical analyses. Previously, he had worked as an advisor on security and peace policy at the Secretariat-General of the FDFA (2018-21). He was penholder and secretary of the high-level working group "Aussenpolitische Vision Schweiz 2028 (AVIS28)" tasked with drafting a report on the future of Swiss foreign policy by Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis. Between 2013 and 2017, he was diplomatic advisor to foreign minister Didier Burkhalter, focusing on Switzerland’s 2014 OSCE presidency and its response to the Ukraine crisis. Prior to his employment at the FDFA, he had been Deputy Head of Think Tank at the CSS and Head of its Strategic Trends Analysis team, covering Swiss foreign and security policy, European security, the Middle East, and geopolitical trends.
