Marius Vaščega is a long standing European official. As from 2019 he is leading the team of Virginijus Sinkevičius, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries.

In this position he has been coordinating and leading preparation of a number of European initiatives delivering on the European Green Deal in the areas of circular economy, nature and fight against pollution.

In the field of biodiversity and efforts to reverse degradation of ecosystems, the most recent policy deliverables were the new and ambitious Biodiversity,

Forests and Soils strategies, as well as new EU legislation to fight deforestation globally
