Mike Morrissey is Chairman of the Board of Protective Life Corporation, a Fortune 500 provider of life insurance, annuities and other financial products. Protective Life is owned by Dai Ichi Life Group, one of Japan’s and the world’s largest life insurance companies. Previous to his appointment to the Protective Life board, Mike was President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Insurance Society (IIS) for eleven years. He continues his now 28-year involvement with the IIS as a member of its Executive Council and as its Special Advisor.
In 2012, Mike worked with Butch Bacani and the UNEP team to launch the Principles for Sustainable Insurance at that year’s Global Insurance Forum, taking place in Rio de Janeiro during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development. Having the event take place in the presence of 600 insurance industry leaders from more than 55 countries, with the world’s insurance media in attendance, was instrumental in promoting the PSI agenda and attracting industry participation.
The IIS has continued to use its global platform to stimulate the industry to expand its efforts in resilience and sustainability, including being one of the organizers of the Insurance Development Forum, and serving as its initial Secretariat. Mike was a Steering Committee and Operating Committee member of the IDF until his retirement from the IIS.
Mike’s current activities also include being a board and Executive Committee member of Selective Insurance Group, a publicly traded nonlife insurer, as well as being Chairman of Legeis Capital, an alternative asset management firm. He has earned a BA from Boston College, an MBA from Dartmouth, completed the Harvard Business School Corporate Financial Management Program, and has a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
